French group IMV Technologies announces the acquisition of ECM (Echo Control Medical), one of the world leaders in the design and manufacture of portable and ultra-portable ultrasound scanners for farm animals and pets.
ECM, which is based in Angoulême (southwest France), designs high-performance devices that are distributed worldwide through 60 distributors. Its equipment is used by veterinarians and ultrasound technicians to perform scans in farms in the best possible conditions. The robust systems are equipped with innovative features such as a simplified display of functions on the tactile screen, voice command or management via a tablet.
For IMV Technologies, the world leader in reproduction biotechnologies, this acquisition is in line with its strategy to widen its product offering, which had historically been focused on insemination, to the entire reproduction management sector. In 2016, the company had already added Alphavision to its range, a video-assisted insemination system that makes insemination more reliable. The acquisition of ECM underlines the intensification of this change to an integrated offering, which will now include ultrasound scanning for pregnancy control examinations.
“IMV’s position as an international leader in the development of artificial reproduction in the past 50 years, combined with ECM’s thirty years as a pioneer in the field of veterinary medical ultrasound scanning are going to help us offer a much wider range of products to our current and future clients”, declared Gilles de Robert, Chairman of the Board at IMV Technologies. “Joining forces will allow us to be even more efficient in implementing cutting edge technologies and will create new opportunities.”
“I am very happy that ECM has joined the IMV Technologies Group”, declared Patrice Emery, Managing Director of ECM. “This will guarantee a bright long-term future for ECM. Our range of ultrasound scanners is a perfect complement to the artificial insemination products manufactured and distributed by IMV. We already had a few distributors in common but this move is going to help ECM be even more present in strategically important areas and to develop new products adapted to new species.”
